Big Leaf Foundation Community Cricket Event.

The High Sheriff attended a community cricket event this week hosted by ‘Big Leaf Foundation’ whose aims are to provide a nurturing programme of activities, projects and events that focus on combating social isolation for displaced young people in Surrey.

“We at ‘Big Leaf’ were delighted to welcome the High Sheriff to our community cricket event generously hosted by Guildford Cricket Club. Recent events have left many of the young people supported by Big Leaf feeling distressed and fearful about life in the UK, but the support from the club, the players and all of our guests went a long way to underline how many people really do cherish our diverse community. It was a close match involving both experienced players and newcomers to the game, and the atmosphere of friendship and encouragement, fuelled by some excellent samosas, pakoras and Afghan snacks, provided a welcome reminder of how much a simple game of cricket can bring everyone together. Many thanks to the High Sheriff for his support of the event and of all the young people at Big Leaf”.

The guests in the photo GCC8 are: Chief Inspector Dallas McDermott (Surrey Police); Dr Rebecca Bowden (CFS); the High Sheriff; Alison Hall (Alcis).
