The High Sheriff tries Boccia & Biking at LinkAble Paralympics Community Fun Day.
It was all fun and smiles at Woking Sportsbox this week as Surrey Charity – LinkAble, which is also based in Woking, held its first Paralympics community fun day, providing the opportunity for people with learning or physical disabilities and autism, along with non disabled people and community groups to enjoy accessible activities. The High Sheriff of Surrey, Mr Shahid Azeem DL took part in a game of Boccia for the first time and managed to win the game – watched by Boccia star – Matt Berry.
Boccia – a game similar to bowls and pétanque, was popular throughout the day as was Accessible Cycling which took place on Woking Sportbox’s impressive outdoor track. Mr Azeem quickly mastered the tandem Cycle along with the help of one of the participants – he said, “It was an honour to be a part of such a well organised community event today – Boccia was great fun as was biking around the track which may have been even better had I realised I had to change gear – I did wonder why it was quite hard work! Well done to LinkAble and the many volunteers who helped to make it such a success and such fun for the many people who took part “
Later The High Sheriff, along with the Mayor of Woking – Cllr Louise Morales and Will Forster MP for Woking, presented medals to some of the superstars of the day. A Fantastic event supported by other local organisations including Active Surrey, Freedom Leisure, Surrey County Council, Surrey Wheels for All, Woking Walking FC and The Fidelis Partnership. Funding was also supplied from Sport England.
