Surrey & Warwickshire – to go head to head in Inaugural Taste Match

Wines, beer and gins from two counties will be pitched against one another in a taste match at Denbies vineyard on 30th October.  In a plan hatched by His Honour Christopher Critchlow LL.B, DL, High Sheriff of Surrey and David Kelham, High Sheriff of Warwickshire there will be three ticketed sessions during the day at 11pm, 1pm and 2.30pm, where guests will be invited to blind taste some of the very best drinks the counties have to offer and decide which one wins the taste test.

In addition to the taste match sessions Surrey Hills Enterprises are supporting the event with a producer’s market featuring artisans from across the Surrey Hills, as well as 5 live demonstrations from food and drink producers.

The sessions are hosted by accomplished moderator Ian Jones, who has been involved in the Surrey Hills food scene for several years.  Each session will feature informative and amusing discussion with the producers from each county, giving the guests some context, history and provenance around the drinks they are tasting.

Ian Jones commented “this is a fantastic celebration of the outstanding food and drink from the two counties, with some great fun during the tasting sessions spiced up with some healthy competition”

Producers featured in the taste off include –

Silent Pool

Wessex Distillery

The Vineyards of the Surrey Hills

Crumbs Brewery

Dorking Brewery

Windmill Hill Brewery

The Warwickshire Gin Company

Blaber’s Hall Vineyard

With all profit from the event going to charity.  Christopher Critchlow commented “the event is set to raise £1,000’s for The High Sheriff Youth Award, which provides funding to a range of projects benefiting young people across Surrey.”

A rematch is already planned at Warwick Castle in February of next year.
