The High Sheriff Youth Awards are an organisation who provide funding for a project or initiative for young people that will help reduce or prevent crime – and make communities stronger and safer by reaching out and helping others.

Groups can apply for funding for a new or existing project provided that it meets the funding guidance set out on the HSYA website (http://www.surreyhighsheriff.org/willyouqualify.html)

The Application can be for any amount from £500 up to £4,000 and can be applied for at any time. We are particularly keen to support a project where young people, normally between the ages of 9 and 18, are actively involved in planning and running it. The High Sheriff also welcomes an opportunity to visit those projects that are successful – to present a Certificate of Achievement.

The High Sheriff Youth Award (HSYA) was established in 1993 as a registered charity with the aim of making a difference to the lives of young people within the County. Over the years awards have been made to a huge variety on projects, all in their own way have helped young people make Surrey safer.

HSYA receives donations from a number of generous sponsors within the County and is administered and managed by a small group of experienced volunteers who either act as Assessors to assess the applications as they are received and Trustees who, in addition to their responsibilities to maintain the objectives of the charity, form a Panel to consider the recommendations made by Assessors and, where appropriate, decide on the level of award to be made.

Will your project qualify? Remember, HSYA supports schemes in Surrey where young people can show us that they aim to help reduce or prevent crime – and make their communities stronger and safer. That can be in a whole lot of very different ways. It is important that your application fits with the Funding Guidance which can be found at
