Oak Hall Open Day

Oak Hall, one of the Elizabeth Finn care homes, held an open day for residents and visitors. A beautiful sunny afternoon at this wonderful home which not so long ago was Whispers School.

South Farnham School and Coram Life Education

Coram visited South Farnham School year 6 to share with them thoughts on decision making and exposure to drugs. It was a fascinating and interactive morning inside Coram’s teaching tent. South Farnham School was buzzing with pupils intent on getting to their lessons and then surprised to see the High Sheriff in full uniform, and it wasn’t even a dress up day!

The 75th Anniversary of the D Day Landings

A wonderful service at Guildford Cathedral to mark Armed Forces Week and the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings. The Cathedral was filled with sea, army, and RAF/ air training cadets, as well as the outstanding Woking and Guildford Surrey Police Cadets.

The Ridgeway Community School Farnham

What an amazing school for 120 2-19 year olds. The Ridgeway supports those with severe learning disabilities, with incredible facilities and amazing technology to enrich students lives. The teachers, carers and nurses are just brilliant, so caring and dedicated. Squeezed into the site is a beautiful therapy garden and an amazing horticulture area growing vegetables and sweet smelling sweet peas. Good luck in the Farnham in Bloom competition!

Prize winning dancing

Students of Thrive Dance Academy performed a powerful dance at The Farnham Maltings as their graduation performance. It was a huge pleasure to present the certificates to the graduates, as well as a High Sheriff Youth Award to Rachel Deadman for Thrive dance Academy. Rachel’s inspiration in providing an alternative to main stream schooling to achieve success for young people through dancing is incredible.

High Sheriff’s Visit to Gatwick Police Station

The High Sheriff’s of East and West Sussex, Kent and myself were given an eye opening opportunity to see the incredible work of the Gatwick Police, part of Surrey and Sussex Combined Force. We went through airport security and then airside, and experienced the sophisticated operations required to ensure the safety of all those using and working at Gatwick airport.

Surrey Civic Network

The Chairman of Surrey County Council arranged a gathering of the Mayors and Chairmen of the boroughs and districts of the county together with the Lord Lieutenant and Vice Lord Lieutenant. It was a

great opportunity to hear from everyone of the charities and themes they will be supporting this year. An enormous variety of very worthwhile causes.

Twelfth Night a real success

The Guildford Shakespeare Company treated us to a fantastic evening on Monday. The Company performed Twelfth Night outside in the beautiful grounds of Guildford castle, as the sun lowered and dusk set in. The performance was outstanding, a fresh take on the comedy, full of catchy songs and frolicking laughter. All at once intimate, dynamic and highly professional. The performance is running until 29th June, and I can’t recommend it enough. Many thanks to all at GSC for a fantastic evening.
