Supporting Talented Musicians in the County – ‘The Cheryl King Trust’
I attended a great music recital at the County Club, hosted by the Cheryl King Trust based in Surrey. Their aim is that no young person in Surrey should be prevented from learning a musical instrument because their parents cannot afford it. They achieve this by providing bursaries for instrument lessons and grants for music ensembles. During the last financial year they have provided directly or indirectly, 40 bursaries for young people aged 18 or under living in Surrey who are from low income families. The Trust also continued to fund three young musicians living in Surrey through national programmes run by ‘Awards for Young Musicians’ and ‘Future Talent’.
One of the students performing tonight (pictured), was Sophie Kaur who grew up in Guildford and went to Guildford High School who plays the Cello. She was recently selected from hundreds of cellists worldwide for a leading role in the film TÁR, written and directed by Todd Field which also starred Cate Blanchett. Amongst her accolades and highlights she became the youngest guest artist to reach No.1 on the Classical-on-demand Audio Streaming chart with her debut EP – ‘Unsung’ in 2023. It was great to see such a talented performer in our county having achieved so much with the help of the Cheryl King Trust. also performing was Sarah Walker – an Ambassador for the trust. #thecherylkingtrust #sophiekaur #cellist #classicalmusic.#surreylive #highsheriffofsurrey. #BBCradiosurrey #surreyhillsradio #thecountyclubguildford
