High Sheriff of Surrey Annual Golf Day raises 23,000 for Surrey youth Projects

Kingswood Golf Club were the ‘fantastic’ hosts for what was described as a perfect venue for the High Sheriff of Surrey’s Golf Day, opened by the High Sheriff of Surrey himself – Mr Tim Wates DL, with a challenging course and perfect weather giving everyone involved a thoroughly good day out.

The event, with Wates Group Headlining the sponsorship supported by Srixon and Glucorx, Natta Building co. and JRL Group sponsoring holes, raised a whopping 23,000 for the High Sheriff Youth Awards Scheme which gives grants to projects for young people in Surrey – with the aim of helping young people make Surrey safer.

They support initiatives where young people, normally between the ages of 9 and 18, are actively involved in the planning and running of projects in the Community.

Committee member, Julian Wakeling said, “We are delighted that the weather was good to us and that the day was such a thoroughly enjoyable success. The organising committee worked hard to make it a memorable day and special thanks go to our compere – Adger Brown who provided us with entertainment and helped tremendously towards achieving the funds raised through the auction. A silent auction held online also raised significant extra funds which will make a tangible difference to the lives of young people across Surrey”

Shahid Azeem DL, who co-organised the event added “Many thanks go to all those who took part in the auctions. The highest bid received was £2700 for a box at Ascot donated by the Wates family. A big thanks to them and all the other generous donors who helped raise such a fantastic amount.”

The winners of the tournament, who were presented with trophies by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey – Mr Michael More-Molyneux, were ‘Team Attic’ whose members were David Varns, Steve Butwell, Glyn Morgan & Jullian Wakeling. In second place was ‘Team Wates’comprising Andrew Shaw, Craig Horn & Adam Randall.
