ADHD Spelthorne Chosen by Mayor for High Sheriff's Award!

I was supported by the Mayor of Spelthorne, Jean Pinkerton (left) and Trustee, Richard Walsh (right) in presenting a High Sheriff’s Award to Jo Purdey and her superb team after the regular meeting for members at Shepperton Youth Centre. The Award is for ‘great and valuable services to the community’, with ADHD Spelthorne amongst a growing network of organisations throwing a long-needed spotlight on the issue of ADHD. Excellent presentations during the evening emphasised that around 5% of children have ADHD; 3% are diagnosed and only 1% receive medication – even though this neurodevelopmental disorder can often be effectively treated with appropriate medication. The need for specific training for staff in schools was recognised and the entire subject will be discussed on Channel 5 at 5pm this evening – don’t miss it!
