The Shrievalty has had historic links with law and order since the 10th century. Young people in Surrey continue to work together in different ways, with the objective that, by their activities, they will help make their communities stronger and safer. The High Sheriff Youth Awards (HSYA) scheme provides financial support up to £5,000 to help with the start-up costs or to support an existing project. The scheme has recently also provided additional support to groups to help them through the challenges they have experienced during the pandemic. The 2021 HSYA Annual Awards Celebration, to showcase groups and young people who have received awards, was a virtual event very successfully hosted by the University of Surrey
